Transport for NSWWhat’s this about?
The Geographical Names Board (GNB) is seeking community feedback on a proposal by Transport for NSW (TfNSW) to rename a railway station in the locality of Pyrmont from Fish Market Light Rail Stop to Bank Street Light Rail Stop.
Fish Market Light Rail Stop is located on the intersection of Bank Street and Miller Street, underneath the Western Distributor in Pyrmont, near the entrance to the current Sydney Fish Market.
TfNSW has proposed changing its name to Bank Street Light Rail Stop to reflect the street on which it is located.
The proposal to rename the station arises from the closure of the existing Sydney Fish Market facility.
With the development of the new fish market, light rail passengers will need to disembark at the Wentworth Park stop, which is a significant distance from the current Fish Market light rail station but closer to the new facility.
Maintaining the current name for this stop may lead to confusion for passengers when the new fish market opens.
